Delhi University vice- chancellor Dinesh Singh on Tuesday announced a new team of core officials, who will be in charge of running the institution for the next five years.
The executive council — the highest decision- making panel of the university — made fresh appointments to the posts of pro- vice- chancellor, dean of colleges, proctor and director, South Campus, on the recommendation of Singh at a meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Vivek Suneja from the faculty of management studies, Sudhish Pachauri of the Hindi department, H. P. Singh from physics and astrophysics and Umesh Rai from the zoology department are the new pro- V- C, dean of colleges, proctor and director of South Campus respectively.
These posts had been lying vacant since the appointment of the new V- C on October 29. While Suneja was part of the previous V- C’s team as the dean of planning, others are fresh appointees.
Pachauri, who was the head of Hindi from 2007 to 2010, first joined as a lecturer at Zakir Husain College in 1970 and then joined the department in 2004.
Rai, who completed his education from Banaras University, joined DU’s department of zoology in 1992.
“ The new team is appointed following recommendations from the V- C. The act and statutes of the university allow the V- C to select officials in accordance with his discretion. Now that the appointments have been made, meetings of the executive council can be held regularly,” a senior university official said.
The announcement of the new team was eagerly awaited by several heads of departments as there has been confusion regarding the implementation of the much- talked- about and controversial semester system in arts and commerce.
There has been no official communication from Singh’s office. “ We will discuss the semesters with the V- C as soon as he announces his core team,” B. Chatterjee, head of history, had said earlier.
