Aamir Khan stars in Imran Khan Wedding with Avantika Malik

Imran Khan and Avantika Malik’s wedding reception on Monday at a Mumbai five-star hotel was mostly a family affair that saw a select list of outsiders being invited. The private gala may have been about Imran tying the knot with Avantika after seven years of courtship, but it was the young star’s mamujaan Aamir Khan who, true to form, hogged the limelight.

Aamir used the occasion to declare his number one status in Bollywood, albeit in jest. The incident happened when Aamir was asked if he had instigated Imran’s sisters to demand a hefty amount from Imran at the dwaar rokai ceremony.

“ Imran is a very stingy guy despite being India’s number one star, I mean number two — after all, I am number one!” quipped Aamir with a hearty laugh, even as Imran looked on sheepishly. For the record, Imran doled out ` 1,011,00 lakh to each of his six sisters.

Imran and Avantika opted for a registry marriage, at Aamir’s house in Pali Hill on Monday. It was a private affair, with only family members, including Aamir and his wife Kiran, his first wife Rina and their kids Junaid and Ira, Aamir’s cousin Mansoor Khan and his wife Tina, Aamir’s mother Zeenat, Imran’s parents, and aunts Nikhat and Farhat.

“ I don’t feel married yet. I think it will take some time to sink in. But I’m very happy,” said Imran. Aamir, and before him, Imran’s mother Nuzhat, had both wedded in the same bungalow.

The reception was hosted in the evening at a five- star hotel in Bandra. While Avantika looked resplendent in a Manish Malhotra lehenga with a red border and gold work, Imran turned out in a black bandhgala by Karan Johar and Varun Bahl.

Aamir was elated to see Imran getting married. “ We are very happy for both Imran and Avantika,” he said.

After the reception, Imran returned home with Avantika in a black Porsche bearing white flags that said ‘ Just Married’. The newly- weds are to leave for a three- day honeymoon in Phuket on Tuesday. However, their plans are still unclear. At the sangeet ceremony on Saturday, Imran had said he had “ no time for a honeymoon”. Imran is currently busy shooting for Yash Raj Films’ upcoming production, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Karan Johar’s Stand By Me . “ As soon as the wedding gets over, I have to return to shooting,” he had said.
