Hiss Movie Review : All the Hisss goes Fiss

What's scarier than Mallika Sherawat donning creepy snake- skin prosthetics? The idea of Mallika Sherawat trying to act, that’s what.

Hisss would at least have been acceptable for what it is worth — a C- grade horror flick — had they sold it that way.

But they created a full- on publicity circus touting this freak show as Mallika’s launchpad in Hollywood.

Forget Hollywood. Apna Bhojwood would come up with better stuff if they had the moolah to fund such complicated make- up and SFX drill.

Make no mistake, director Jennifer Lynch might be auteur David Lynch’s daughter but she has clearly not inherited much from those genes. She was probably in the mood to romance the mystique of India ( aren’t all firang filmmakers coming here bitten by that bug?). So she picks up the jaded Naagin ka revenge theme and parcels it with lots of blood and random loud shots at scaring.

There’s a lame ‘ script’ to justify all the mindless gore, sleekly cut chases and, of course, Mallika’s bizarre naagin get- ups.

An American hunter in India captures a naag . So the naagin takes a human avatar (Mallika) and goes on a brutal killing spree to free her mate. Irrfan essays a ridiculously penned cop out to put away the killer snake woman for good. On Mallika, she’s actually looking funny in some of her snaked- up get- up.

Sure, you have Mallika in her birthday suit in several parts. But the tacky snakey get- up robs her of all oomph.
