Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) achieved a feat on Friday when its students became the first across any educational institution in the country to receive their Unique Identification numbers (UIDs) on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebration.
Chief minister Shiela Dikshit allotted UIDs to 12 selected students, who are research and teaching assistants at the university. The UID numbers will be valid lifelong and have been added into the university’s database.
The chief minister unveiled the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the campus as part of a valedictory function held to mark the completion of 25 years of the open university.
The chief minister also promised that the Delhi government would build a two- kilometre road to connect the university with MB Road. “ It is unacceptable that a world class university remains inaccessible because of a two- kilometre road stretch,’’ she said.
