After India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, it is his teammate Praveen Kumar who has been bowled over by his childhood friend. Uttar Pradesh pacer Praveen got engaged to his long- time friend Sapna in his home town Meerut on Sunday.
However, like his captain Dhoni, Praveen also ensured that the ceremony was an intensely private affair. Interestingly, Praveen made his international debut on the same date on which he has decided to get married — November 18.
The ring ceremony took place in the Multannagar locality of the city on Sunday evening when Praveen got engaged to Sapna, daughter of a former army personnel. The media was kept at bay and the local police was on its heels to make sure that no ‘ uninvited’ guests managed to have a sneak preview of the function.
While Praveen was unavailable for comments, his elder brother, Vinay Kumar, gave a brief description. “ They are childhood friends and it ( engagement ceremony) is a family function. No one, even our relatives or his ( Indian) team members have been invited,” Vinay said. “ The marriage is slated for November 18 and we are planning a grand event at the J. P. Resorts in Meerut,” he added.
After making his first class debut in 2004, Praveen entered the international arena on November 18, 2007 when he played his first One- day International against Pakistan in Jaipur. He remained wicketless till the second ODI he played for India before returning figures of four for 31 to help his team defeat Sri Lanka in February 2008.
Dhoni also tied the nuptial knot with a childhood friend Sakshi Singh Rawat on July 4 this year in a private ceremony attended only by his family members and close friends, including a few of his teammates, in Dehradun in the northern state of Uttarakhand.
