Prajakta Shukre, singer and former Indian Idol contestant, was arrested by the Santacruz police late on Tuesday night from Daulat Nagar in Santacruz ( West) after she rammed her car into two youngsters including a minor who received a fracture in his leg. Soon after the incident, a mob which had gathered around Shukre, assaulted Indian Idol winner, Abhijeet Sawant, who had come to Shukre's aid. Shukre was arrested for rash driving and subsequently granted bail on Wednesday morning.
Santacruz police said, 23- year- old Shukre, a resident of Goregaon on Tuesday around 10.45 pm, rammed her Honda City car into a couple of youngsters who were riding an Activa bike at Daulat Nagar. The victims, 14- year- old Tobif Khan received a fracture in his leg and a few bruises on his body and 19- year- old, Tahil Ravaan, received bruises on his head and hands. Both were rushed to nearby Nanavati Hospital.
A police official said, " Shukre, saw an empty lane in the area and decided to get into a car race with her friend Abhijeet Sawant who was driving an Audi," adding, " Shukre's medical reports confirm that she was not in an inebriated condition when the mishap took place." According to police, Sawant has decided against filing a complaint against the members of the mob who physically assaulted him.
