The Mumbai police are taking all possible steps to ease tensions and infuse confidence in the minds of Mumbaikars ahead of the New ear bash. Hence, they have decided to post State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Quick Response Team (QRT) companies at sensitive places in the city. On Tuesday, they also revealed that while continuing the two- year- old ban on boat parties, they have allowed pubs and bars to serve liquor till dawn.
Accordingly, the entire Colaba, Gateway of India and Causeway area have been kept under the CCTV camera surveillance. Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Rajnish Seth said, " We are also going to post several companies of the SRPF and the QRT at crowded and sensitive places. While the State Excise department has allowed the bars and restaurants to remain open till 5 am on January 1, 2011, all dance parties are permitted to run only till 1.30am." In order to keep a tab on drug peddling on the eve of New ear, the Anti- Narcotics Cell is in action. Seth added, " The ANC officials are carrying out special drives to curb buying and selling of drug in the city. Usually there is an upswing in the demand of drugs on the eve of New ear celebrations due to rave parties etc."
The officials would not permit boat parties in the sea due to security concerns. Turning down several applications to seek permission for the same, the police decided to continue the two- year- old ban.
People would be permitted to use loudspeakers only upto 12am and firecrackers till 10pm. The Noise Pollution Control Board would supervise the deadlines. The officials would also have a drive against the drunken drivers. The police staff would be equipped with alcohol- meters, noise meters etc for the day.
Following the threat of four L-eT terrorists Abdul Kareem Musa, Noor Abu Eelahi, Walid Jinnah and Mahfooz Alam allegedly present in the city, the police have also appealed the people to stay alert and to approach them in case they fine anything suspicious.
