It looks like Yash Raj Films’ troubles are far from getting over. As they were just limping back to normalcy with their recent hit ‘ Band Baaja Baaraat’, after giving series of flops in the last couple of years, the production house is mired with another controversy, and a more serious one at that.
As every year, this time too Filmfare Awards is being held at Yash Raj’s palatial studio in suburban Mumbai. But the news coming out from the stables is not good. Very first, “ The labourers engaged to work there do not belong to the Majdoor Union. Most of them are not registered with the Union,” informs Premji, the head of the Mumbai Film Majdoor Union, and secondly, but more important, two of the workers working there are seriously injured and have been hospitalised.
The story goes thus. Since the award night was just round the corner, Mechanical Engineer Rajendra Yadav was making every labourer work harder and longer. “ He was informed about the poor condition of the trolleys but before he could do anything, they gave way and fell on two workers, Ashish Kumar Khushwa and Rajesh adav,” says a source on the condition of anonymity.
An SMS confirmation from the RF studio said, “ An Incident happened on the Filmfare Awards sets a few days ago which the production unit attended to very promptly.” The incident occurred a couple of days back, on January 24. “ A complaint has been registered on the 25th of Jan at the Amboli police station.
However, no arrests or proper inquiries have been made in this issue,” says the source. As for Ashish and Rajesh, both of them are fighting their battle of life and death at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at Four Bungalows, Mumbai.
Inspector of Police, Jitu Kadam of the Amboli police station confirmed the news saying, “ A complaint has been registered under section 337/ 338 on the 25th afternoon,” but refused to divulge anything more. Even though this time it was not the production house that had anything to do with the unfortunate accident, it still came under the eye of the storm, thanks to the carelessness of people working on the sets.
Talk about controversies... endless.
