TCS to take in 37,000 freshers next fiscal

After Infosys Technologies, leading IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS) said on Tuesday that it is turning towards college campuses to hire 37,000 freshers in the next fiscal.

“Our hiring ratio will be around 54: 46 trainee and lateral (professionals), respectively. The demand is strong and we hope it will continue to grow in the coming days,” TCS head ( global human resources) Ajoyendra Mukherjee said. Beset by attrition woes and lack of trained manpower, IT firms are turning to campuses to recruit freshers to keep their business running and complete projects on time.

“Our short- term challenge is to continue to retain people although the attrition rate has come down in Q3 of FY’ 11,” TCS chief executive officer ( CEO) N. Chandrasekaran said on Monday.

Software firm, Wipro, also announced plans to hire about 8,000 fresh graduates. Firms turn to campuses due to the high salary demands and job hopping tendencies of experienced professionals. “ Mostly they (freshers) are happy with annual package of ` 3- 3.5 lakh. Also, they are sincere in their approach,” a senior HR professional from Infosys informed .
