Jhootha Hi Sahi Review : Fun Film to Watch

It's all fine when John Abraham struts those rippling abs. Or biceps, or butt... whatever. It’s a whole new deal when the Bollywood hunk tries playing a geek who thrives on lies. John’s cried from the rooftop that girlfriend Bips loves his makeover from sexy dude to specsy nerd in Abbas Tyrewala’s new film. Watching Jhootha Hi Sahi, you are only half-convinced.

Tyrewala’s second film, coming after the cute Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na , makes one thing clear. The director likes a screenplay packed with too many characters (that becomes minus at times, convoluting proceedings).

He has a nice sense of humour (that’s a plus). And he knows how to underplay relationship nuances for maximum impact (definitely a plus).

Jhootha Hi Sahi kicks off the story of Sid (John) with those Tyrewala traits. Sid runs a bookstore called Kaagaz Ke Phool in London. Why London and not Mumbai? Because London’s got better shooting locales and this is a commercial film meant to look beautiful at all times. Even when hero and heroine look threatened to part forever, the London Bridge seems like a more photogenic backdrop.

Sid’s partner in the bookstore business is buddy Omar (Raghu Ram). And with Omar enters a slew of characters into the story you can’t quite figure out why they exist. There’s Omar’s sister Aaliya, Aaliya’s boyfriend Nick, their gay friend Uday, and Sid’s gay employee Amit. Sid has a girlfriend too — the bossy Kruttika (Omar loves to call her Kuttika for most parts because he feels she’s a b* tch).

So, what’s the tale? A phone number snafu lands Mishka (Pakhi Tyrewala) at the other end of Sid’s landline one night. She’s depressed and wants to die. So, Sid tries to convince her life is worth living.

He has to lie and create a persona opposite his geeky self to make Mishka believe him. The trouble starts when Mishka and Sid meet. He falls in love with her, but she is in love with the fantasy guy he had conjured up with his lies.

John tries hard to convince you as the geek who stammers in front of pretty girls. The effort shows, and that’s a pitfall.

Debutante Pakhi is pretty and not much else. Most in the bloated prop cast do a fine job.

The film appeals as long as the story builds up. The problem starts once Sid falls in love with Mishka. Jhootha Hi Sahi takes a predictable turn from that point, and ends exactly as you think it will.

Clichéd hi sahi , this is a fun film to watch.

uhhh, just so you know, the bridge you mention, is NOT the london bridge. On the contrary its The Tower Bridge.
The movie promises a good time, and the large cast assembled does a good job, especially Raghu. the script is hilarious and the nerd look definitely suits John.
i would give this movie 3 1/2 stars. Go watch it !! :D
